Dear YKCC Members,

The City of Yellowknife has advised us that the Yellowknife Curling Centre is to be closed to the public effective immediately. The Board of Directors respects and supports this decision in the interest of public health and safety.

This means that the added practice ice time discussed last week will all be cancelled as well the Board of Directors of the Yellowknife Curling Club have made the difficult decision to suspend the 2020 Year End Awards Banquet on April 4th. This decision was not an easy one as we care greatly about this event as a fun way to show our appreciation to all our valued members and volunteers, however we deemed it necessary due to the current circumstances involving the COVID19 issue and our dedication to the safety and well being of our club.

The Board will be meeting later this month to discuss possibly rescheduling the Awards Banquet for a later date. Any members who have already bought tickets will be refunded.

NOMINATIONS FOR 2019/2020 YEAR END AWARDS

The Yellowknife Curling Club Board of Directors is seeking nominations from the members of the Yellowknife Curling Club for the 2019/ 2020 year end awards.  The awards are as follows: Al Dusseault Award, Wade Hamer Award, Rink Rat Award and the Lifetime Membership Award. 

Process:

If you would like to nominate a member for an award, please send their name and award category via e mail to the Manager of the Curling Club This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . The deadline for nominations is 5:00 pm March 20, 2020.

The nominations will be reviewed by a committee of three and the Board will make the award decisions at their meeting on March 25, 2020. 

The winners of the awards will be made at the year-end banquet on April 4, 2020.

Eligibility for the Awards

All members of the Curling Club with the exception of Robert O’Rourke, Melissa Tilden (Manager) and Ed Sattleberger are eligible for the awards.

Descriptions of Awards

                                                     Al Dusseault Award

Purpose: To recognize an individual or team for their outstanding contribution to curling at the YKCC

CRITERIA:

• A member of YKCC
• Overall commitment to curling in YKCC
• A dedicated volunteer who helps out at numerous events
• Promotes curling within YKCC
• Assists to develop programs to encourage participation in curling
• Inspires others to contribute to the sport as well as to the YKCC

AWARD: Based on a written nomination and will be determined by YKCC Board of Directors

WADE HAMER AWARD:

• This award was donated by Hamer family.  However, YKCC selects a suitable member for this award.
• This has been often been given to a person or persons who have assisted and/or run the Little Rocker and/or Junior program.

RINK RAT

• This award was started a few years ago by Tara Naugler to recognize a member of the YCC who spends countless hours at the club for the betterment of the sport of curling.

 

LIFE TIME MEMBERSHIP AWARD

• A member of YKCC for at least 15 or more years
• Overall commitment to curling in YKCC
• A dedicated volunteer who has helped out at numerous events in the past.
• Promotes curling within YKCC
• Is generally acknowledged as a senior member of YKCC
• This award has not always been given out every year
